Matthew Morris is a Tampa based artist currently in productions and concerts across The Bay Area.

He focuses on his passions for Musical Theater, Guitar, Songwriting, Dance, Music Production, and Management.

Matthew Morris is a Tampa Bay native that has become a local favorite in the rock music & musical theater scene in recent years. A classically trained musician, dancer, & comedic actor, he uses his education of the arts to fuel his passion in performances across the area.

Beginning to pursue the arts professionally in 2018 with his self written and produced debut single “Sirens”, he would go on to win the St. Petersburg College SEMMY Award for Best Musical Composition at the college level for the song in 2020. This inspired him to dive even more into the performing arts on a professional level.

Taking to the professional scene full time in 2021, he has been seen on the stage performing in musicals such as RENT, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Peter and the Starcatcher, & Escape to Margaritaville in lead roles. As well as with his touring rock band The Baby Chimps as the lead vocalist & guitarist. Other entertainment avenues have been stand-up comedy, acting as the host of the St. Petersburg College Radio Show; Matthew’s Record Shop, as well as his podcast The Matthew Morris Experience. Both of which received nominations in the Top 10 for Creative Loafing’s “Best of the Bay” awards for Best Local Radio Show (2021), and Best Podcast (2021, 2022) respectively.

His performances in RENT & Dirty Rotten Scoundrels garnered him BroadwayWorld Tampa nominations for Best Leading & Supporting Actor in a Musical, as well as Top 3 placements for Best Actor & Best Dancer in Creative Loafing’s “Best of the Bay” awards in 2022. His “Unplugged” performance with American Stage saw another BroadwayWorld Tampa nomination for Best Cabaret/Concert/Solo Performance in 2023.

He toured with The Baby Chimps all throughout 2023 on their “Takeover ‘23” tour. The Chimps saw their debut single, “Back to the Start” released in February of 2024 to widespread acclaim with a following tour all year. He then joined the acoustic folk supergroup Sunday Shoes on lead guitar in early 2024.

Matthew is on the road all year with The Baby Chimps, Sunday Shoes, & on stage at local theaters across all of Tampa Bay!
